Coming Soon Water Day 2024

September 17, 2024

Water Day is a hands on water resource learning event for 5 & 6 graders in the ELANCO School District. It takes place in Terre Hill Memorial Park and includes various interactive learning stations including the water cycle, where does your poop go, what are raingardens.

No, this is not chaos, it is interactive learning about stream buffers. Students represent trees, and as balls representing fast moving water, are rolled down a slope, the student trees slow the movement of the balls. Photo from Water Day 2023. Learn more about Water Day

Local Volunteers Train To Perform Stream Monitoring

Training – June 2, 2024

ELANCO recruited local volunteers to train for the Water Quality Volunteer Coalition (WQVC). Volunteers were trained in chemical, physical, and biological sampling and will go out on a monthly basis to conduct water testing. They received training from the Lancaster County Conservation District (LCCD) to ensure all collection and testing methods are consistent with those used to provide data for a statewide water quality database. ELANCO Source Water Collaborative (SWC) was founded in 2012.  The following year it was selected to participate in the National Source Water Collaborative’s Pilot Program.  The ELANCO SWC is a diverse coalition of water suppliers, local government, state and federal agencies, and private and non-profit organizations.  The collaborative and its partners are working to engage the ELANCO region in source water protection through targeted education and outreach.  With the support of the EPA-funded technical assistance and dedicated local champions, the Collaborative hosts an annual educational Drinking Water Day event for 5th and 6th graders. We have also developed an Annual Source Water Protection Workshop for Public Water Supplies and agricultural workshops for Lancaster farmers.
